At the NGO Committee on the Status of Women, NY (NGO CSW/NY), we serve as a catalyst for global civil society engagement in the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW) and the broader advocacy efforts for global gender equality.
We are a diverse coalition of NGOs, civil society organizations, and individuals deeply committed to advancing gender equality and championing the rights and empowerment of women and girls.
Our primary undertaking at NGO CSW/NY revolves around the organization of the annual NGO CSW Forum. This forum plays a pivotal role in bridging the divide between the global civil society and grassroots organizations, ensuring their meaningful participation in the official UN Commission on the Status of Women proceedings held in New York.
Mission:
Our core mission is to provide a platform that amplifies the voices and leadership of feminists and women's rights organizations worldwide. We advocate tirelessly for their inclusion in UN deliberations as part of our unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality.
Vision:
Our vision is a world free from sexism, sexual violence, and discrimination against women and girls. We aspire to see a world where economic, political, and social policies actively promote the empowerment and well-being of women and girls in every corner of the globe. Together, we work towards a future where gender equality is the norm, and every individual can thrive without barriers.
What We Do
NGO CSW Forum-
The NGO CSW Forum stands as the civil society's integral component within the broader framework of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). Spanning across two weeks, this Forum encompasses a multitude of events, running parallel to the official CSW session hosted at the UN Headquarters. This distinctive feature allows civil society actors to actively participate in the CSW processes and sessions, eliminating the need for ECOSOC-accreditation or a UN grounds pass.
Monthly Meetings-
Every month, we convene a meeting for our community, featuring an expert roundtable discussion centered around gender equality-related topics. This year, all our Monthly Meetings will also incorporate discussions on technology and innovation to align with the CSW's priority theme. These gatherings take place virtually via Zoom and are open to the public, fostering inclusivity and knowledge sharing.
Advocacy-
At NGO CSW/NY, our commitment extends to equipping our community with advocacy resources and training to empower them in their pursuits at the UN, particularly during the UN CSW sessions. Additionally, we actively engage in our own advocacy efforts each year, focusing on the UN CSW Zero Draft and the outcome document through our dedicated Advocacy & Research Group.
Community Building-
Building a supportive, inclusive, and empowered community holds paramount importance for us at NGO CSW/NY. Through our NGO CSW Forum, Monthly Meetings, and online presence, we endeavor to unite women's rights activists, feminists, and advocates for gender equality from all walks of life. Together, we strive towards fostering a global environment that champions equality for women and girls in every aspect of society.
